BYD launches new Dolphin Cargo e-Van from £36K

Designed specifically for modern commercial fleets and business users, this versatile light commercial vehicle (LCV) offers a blend of passenger car comfort and robust utility.

The vehicle is a conversion of BYD’s award-winning DOLPHIN hatchback. Crucially for the local market, the engineering work is carried out directly in the UK, ensuring the final product meets the precise demands of British commercial operators while supporting local engineering expertise, claims the manufacturer.

Built for urban fleets and mobile workforces

At the core of the DOLPHIN Cargo e-Van’s appeal is its class-leading electric performance. Powered by a 204PS electric motor and a 60.4kWh battery, the van delivers a WLTP-certified combined range of 265 miles.

For businesses operating primarily in stop-and-start urban environments, that figure rises to an impressive 347 miles on the city cycle. The powertrain utilises BYD’s cobalt-free Blade Battery technology, which it claims is globally recognised for its thermal stability, durability and safety.

To adapt the passenger car for commercial duty, BYD permanently removes the rear seats and installs a full metal bulkhead behind the driver and front passenger. This creates a 1,093-litre load space with a flat, phenolic ply-trimmed floor and a 47-litre underfloor storage compartment.

Despite its compact 4,290mm total length, it accommodates a maximum load length of 1,250mm and a width of up to 1,160mm. Robust interior door cards and bumper protection film ensure it can withstand daily wear and tear.

The van is spec’d generously, claims BYD, matching the passenger car’s ‘Comfort’ trim. Standard features include a heat pump, a 360-degree parking camera and heated seats.

It also boasts Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, turning the van into a mobile power bank capable of charging tools or running site equipment directly from the main vehicle battery.
