First announced in January 2018 at the CES Show in Las Vegas, the Somfy Outdoor Camera is now available from major retailers priced £249.

Winner of a CES Innovation Award, this new outdoor camera is part of Somfy’s strategy for preventative security solutions. The Somfy Outdoor Camera completes the Somfy Protect range of connected security solutions compatible with all connected home ecosystems.

Offering several levels of deterrence to deal with all eventualities, the Somfy outdoor camera is equipped with an integrated powerful 110dB siren. In the event of an attempted break-in, owners receive an alert on their smartphone.

They can then talk to potential intruders – or give an instruction to the remote monitoring service (optional) and activate the siren, if necessary, directly from the “Somfy Protect” application.

Automatic triggering of the siren is also possible thanks to artificial intelligence algorithms. The Somfy Outdoor Camera will even distinguish a human from an animal, eliminating the risk of false alarms (animals, cars, insects etc.) This function will be available in Beta very soon, and customers who already have the Somfy Outdoor Camera will just need a simple update.

Finally, to enhance the level of night deterrence, the camera can be connected to an existing outdoor fixture and will turn on automatically as soon as a presence is detected.

Like other cameras in the Somfy Protect range, when motion is detected a photo-video alert is sent, and a 10-second video is recorded and secured in the cloud. These videos are retrievable and downloadable free for 24 hours and make it possible to remove any doubts and also provide evidence if there is an actual intrusion.

For those wishing to leave their home with peace of mind, Somfy offers 24/7 guard and remote surveillance services. These services are available on request and without commitment from £4.99 per month.

Somfy claims the outdoor camera is easy to install and offers three installation possibilities: plugged in at a mains power socket, connected to an electrical power input or linked to the outdoor lighting system. The smart activation feature allows owners to simplify their departures and arrivals, as the Somfy Outdoor Camera automatically turns off when they return home, and a notification reminds them to activate the camera when they leave home.

The Somfy Outdoor Camera is compatible with TaHoma, the brand’s home automation solution, as well as with Nest ecosystems, IFTTT, Amazon Alexa and Google Home

The Somfy Outdoor Camera is available now from major retailers and professional installers at a price of £249.
