Ford Mustang tops the poll of most famous movie motors

Ever wondered which are the most popular movie motors? Nope me neither. Well thankfully insurance price comparison site GoCompare has. Which is why it’s come up with what it claims is a definitive list of motors in the movies. It’s been compiled from analysing six decades worth of movies (thank goodness for big data).

Perhaps not surprisingly it’s Ford that tops the list, given that most films are made in the US. And it’s the Ford Mustang which is the movie maker’s car of choice and strangely not the Austin Allegro or Morris Ital.

Pictured above is Steve McQueen driving his Ford Mustang GT during the filming of the classic Bullitt in San Francisco in 1968. Interestingly, the original car was thought to have been lost, but coincidentally recently resurfaced, in restored condition, for the film’s 50th anniversary!t

But it’s not all about the wonderful Ford Mustang GT – OK it mostly is. Also making an appearance on GoCompare’s Iconic Cars list are the time-travelling DeLorean (pictured below), the robotic, transforming Chevrolet Camaro and the cool classic, Ford Gran Torino.
