As part of the Life Meets Tech campaign, Broadgate is partnering with London design house, Marokka and The Aspinall Foundation in a unique, augmented reality tech-inspired exhibition.

WILD LIFE combines an imposing three metre tall gorilla sculpture with augmented reality (see above) to help raise awareness of endangered animals.

By downloading Marokka’s free app (iOS and Android), visitors will bring to life a 3D giraffe, elephant, rhino and lion in the square through the power of augmented reality.

Simply point your smartphone at special trigger points positioned across the square and watch as these wild animals move before your eyes on your screen!

Says David Lockyer, Head of Broadgate:

“We’re incredibly proud to host WILD LIFE at Broadgate. As a place which is evolving into a hub for leading and emerging technology companies, culture and art, this installation is a natural fit for an area that welcomes and nurtures innovation and artistic vision.”

WILD LIFE will highlight the necessity for new technology in the preservation of wildlife including the use of trackers and camera traps to monitor and safeguard the animals.

WILD LIFE’s gorilla sculpture and augmented reality installation was unveiled at Finsbury Avenue Square, Broadgate yesterday (31st July) and will remain in situ throughout the London Design Festival until 24th September.

The sculpture will then be gifted to leading animal conservation charity, The Aspinall Foundation, which is committed to returning rare and endangered animals back to their natural habitats.

Exchange Square, Broadgate has been transformed by artist Camille Walala who is creating the annual festival’s landmark project.

To complement WILD LIFE at Broadgate there will be an exclusive talk hosted  at Theatre Delicatessen, Broadgate this evening (Tuesday 1st August) from 6pm.

Tony King, Conservation and Reintroduction Coordinator at The Aspinall Foundation, will discuss how technology is used in the protection of endangered animals. Joe Cocozza of Marokka will also speak on the night, discussing the role of technology in creating their designs, and how augmented reality enhances their work.

The project is part of Broadgate’s summer season, Life Meets Tech, a calendar of tech-inspired events, talks and pop-ups that includes drone racing, a social media masterclass and outdoor film screenings.
