Vines are about to get a whole lot more highly defined, as the app’s API lead engineer has announced that following a forthcoming update, Vines will be saved in 720p quality – up from the 480p that was used before.

The update essentially means the picture quality is going to get a lot better. Whilst still not quite 1080p (let alone 4K), 720p is a reasonable step up given that most Vine video is uploaded over a mobile data connection rather than wifi.

The update will apparently be rolling out to iOS and Android shortly. Now if only the company would do something about the square aspect ratios…
