Unbelievably, until today Amazon’s Netflix-alike Instant Video service has not been available on Android tablets.

That’s all change though as according to Trusted Reviews the app is now available. However, Amazon hasn’t made it easy: Its only available to download from the Amazon app store, which you’ll first have to install on to your tablet manually.

Amazon’s reticence until now is probably through wanting to drive usage of its Kindle Fire tablets, and to discourage Amazon Prime users from picking up just any old Android tablet. Clearly the equation how now changed and Amazon deems getting people on to its services more important than getting people using its hardware. Instant Video has been available on Android phones via a similar method for a while now, because Amazon’s only attempt at a phone – the Fire Phone – was essentially dead on arrival.
