Stephen Fry ‘hounded off’ Instagram, blames the newspapers. Katie Hopkins suggests Milliband should ‘gas his wife’. Nice.
Stephen Fry has quit social media site Instagram, telling his fans he was “hounded off” it by the press. The comedian and actor, who has a huge following on social media with 92,000 Instagram followers, said: “Newspapers, as ever, suck all the joy out of everything. Closing down. It was, briefly, fun. Bye.” In his description he added the line “Hounded off. Goodbye” and posted a blank picture to the page.
Of course it’s not the first time the entertainer has closed down one of his social media account. Last November he said he had to stop using his Twitter account, which has more than nine million followers, because it was not safe. And in 2009, he threatened to leave the site because there was “too much aggression and unkindness around”.
Fry, who is protective of his private life, recently used his Twitter account to reveal he had married his partner Elliott Spencer. With the picture Fry tweeted: “Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing.”
Meanwhile controversial columnist Katie Hopkins who has 539,000 followers on Twitter, has once again courted controversy with her comments about Ed Milliband’s family.
Responding on Twitter to a poll on the popularity of politicians’ wives in which Jewish politician Ed Miliband’s wife Justine came bottom of the list, Hopkins tweeted: Pollsters say Justine is the least popular of party wives. He [Ed Miliband] might stick her head in the oven and turn on the gas.”
The Labour leader has often spoken about his parents’ flight from Nazi persecution, which a number of Twitter users, including Piers Morgan, pointed out to Hopkins.
