The battle for the living room looks set to heat up on Thursday as Google’s very own Nexus Player will be launching here in Britain.

According to IBT, the Android TV device will be available from Amazon for £79.99.

The device is significant as Android TV is Google’s latest attempt at establishing a connected TV platform. Just like Android phones (and whilst running essentially the same OS behind the scenes), the platform will have its own app store for downloading video apps and games, and there will even be built in Chromecast functionality for slinging stuff to the TV too.

This news comes just days after we got word of rumoured new Apple TV – all of which points to the living room being the next place that Google, Apple and others are going to duke it out.
