Apple’s next major operating system could be focused on stability and performance, rather than exciting new features, according to reports.

9to5Mac, which is usually reliable, claims that the plan for iOS9 – which we can expect to be announced in the summer – will be more around improving your phone’s performance, rather than launching any eye-catching new features.

Commentators are likening the plan to the release of Mac OS Snow Leopard in 2009, which similarly didn’t bring much new, but made Macs work better.

Interestingly, to achieve these performance boosts the suggestion is that Apple will be cutting off more older devices from the updates – like the original iPad Mini and the iPhone 5C, so that all iOS9 devices will run on 64 bit chips (making optimisation easier).

We’ll keep you posted.
