Could Android soon be available for Raspberry Pi? That’s the speculation following the announcement that the Raspberry Pi Foundation is working on a completely open source graphics stack for the diminutive computer.

According to Reddit, RPi’s Eric Anholt is working on open sourcing the graphics drivers – which means that eventually it’ll be possible for other developers to adapt them to work with other operating systems, such as Android.

Android on the Pi would be a major boon for the already successful platform – as it would mean thousands of apps could conceivably be available, and a more familiar user experience could be brought to consumers put off my trickier Raspbian Linux. Perhaps the biggest upshot could be for media boxes – as users could have a Netflix app and YouTube app plugged into their tellies.
