Microsoft has released details on what to expect in next month’s system update for Xbox One – with TV updates paying a big part.

Perhaps the biggest gaming addition in the update is the creation of “Game hubs”. Each game will apparently have a hub, and will be where you can go to find leaderboards, game clips and other extra content relating to your games. The idea is that you’ll be able to, say, compare your progress with friends at a glance, and so on.

In terms of the OS itself, it seems the rumours were right: Microsoft is adding transparency options for tiles, so you can get the home screen looking exactly how you want it.

The biggest update though is in terms of TV. For UK users this means more support for the Digital TV tuner accessory that lets you tune into Freeview channels through your console – now you’ll be able to scrub through recordings with picture preview, as well as find what TV is trending in the OneGuide. Helpfully too, Microsoft is updating its database of remote codes, so that your TV and set-top-box will be more likely to be compatible with the console.

Finally, Microsoft is continuing with the preview of live TV streaming to Windows Phone and Android devices.

It isn’t immediately clear exactly when the update will land, but we’ll keep you posted.
