Thirty years after Sir Clive Sinclair’s original took the world by storm, the Spectrum name is to live on in the form of a new games machine that will be capable of playing all 14,000 Spectrum titles ever created.

The ZX Spectrum Vega is an all-in-one joypad that plugs into your TV via HDMI, and is powered by USB – and comes with 1000 built-in Spectrum games. The plan is to continue releasing even more titles for download for free later in the product life cycle too.

It came about when an old fan decided to recreate the computer:

“The Vega has been developed by Chris Smith, a former ZX Spectrum games developer who is the world’s leading expert on Sinclair Spectrum technology and author of the definitive technical book “The ZX Spectrum ULA: How to design a microcomputer”.”

The project also has the backing of Sir Clive himself, who will be signing books for the inevitable crowdfunding campaign.
