Watch out ZipCar – BMW is launching its own car sharing app in London.

The service, called “DriveNow” has already been a success in a number of German cities and lets you rent a car simply by tapping your driving license on the car and using the DriveNow app. The useful part – unlike ZipCar – is that cars aren’t linked to specific driving spaces but you can drop the cars off wherever you need (more like Boris bikes).

According to Engadget, the service is run in partnership with car rental firm Sixt, who will presumably be shifting cars around and doing maintenance and so on.

Apparently cars at launch will include Minis and the electric BMW i3.

We’ll let you know when it launches.
