Vodafone is planning to enter the TV and home broadband market next year, according to reports.

The Telegraph says that the CEO Vittorio Colao has announced the plan – which is motivated by changes in the telecommunications industry.

Essentially, the reason seems to be that everyone is expecting BT to enter the mobile phone market next year: When 4G spectrum was auctioned a few years ago, along with EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three, it bought a chunk too. So with BT getting on Vodafone’s turn, Vodafone is returning the favour. Presumably the telecoms industry will also see an increased number of “quad play” (mobile + broadband + TV + home phone) deals.

The news comes just weeks after we’ve seen EE dive into TV too, launching the EE TV box.

We’ll keep you posted on what Vodafone get up to.
