Microsoft finally killing off the Nokia name for good

We’ve known for some time that now that Microsoft own’s Nokia’s phone division it will be phasing out the Nokia name – the brand wasn’t part of the sale. But now we have more details on exactly how that will be happening.

Geek On Gadgets has got hold of an internal document outlining how the brand will work. It seems that the Lumia name (which Microsoft does own) will stay, and “Nokia” will be replaced by “Microsoft”. So future phones will be the “Microsoft Lumia 123” (or whatever the number is). The transition has already started on a number of former Nokia products.

Apparently the recently announced Lumia 830 and Lumia 730 will be the last devices to include the “Nokia” name.

The document also appears to confirm an earlier rumour about Microsoft dropping the ‘phone’ in Windows Phone and just referring to its mobile platform, as well as its desktop platform and pretty much everything else as simply “Windows”.
