The rumours were true! HTC has announced a new version of the HTC One M8 – which runs Windows Phone 8.1 instead of Android.

Hardware-wise the phone appears to be identical to its Android counterpart, coming complete with the M8’s clever dual-focusing camera and Samsung-taunting full metal body. And though the phone will be a Windows Phone, HTC is porting over its “Blinkfeed” app, which aggregates together social media feeds – it will appear as one of the phone’s live tiles.

Apparently even the “Dot View” case will work with the new phone – letting you talk to Cortana (Microsoft’s answer to Siri) without lifting up the cover.

The only part of the rumours that appears to be untrue is the lack of dual booting with Android – it appears that if you buy the Windows Phone M8, you’re stuck with, well, Windows Phone.

The phone goes on sale in the States today online and tomorrow in stores – we’ll let you know when it reaches Britain.
