The Gear S features a 2-inch Super AMOLED display with 360×480 pixel resolution, and it runs Samsung’s own Tizen mobile OS.

The watch is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, and features Bluetooth, wifi and 3G connectivity.

Samsung says the Gear S has 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM, IP67 dust and water resistance, and a 300mAh battery.

On the software side of things, the Gear S has Nokia’s HERE navigation, and the watch also packs a wide array of sensors – including a barometer, GPS, a compass, a pulse rate reader, and even a UV monitor.

“Samsung is leading the exciting and rapidly developing wearable category with continuous innovation that aims to enhance the lives of technology fans,” said Samsung UK and Ireland mobile marketing director Ines van Gennip.

“The Samsung Gear S is set to redefine the idea of the smart wearable device and the culture of mobile communication, enabling people to live a truly connected life anywhere, anytime.”

The Samsung Gear S will go on sale in October, although no pricing has been announced as yet.
