Panic over! Tomb Raider is only a timed Xbox exclusive.

If you’re a PS4 gamer, prepare to breath a sigh of relief. It appears that the much written about Tomb Raider exclusivity deal for Xbox is only a timed exclusive – meaning that it should reach Playstation shores eventually.

Speaking to Eurogamer Xbox chief Phil Spencer described the terms of the deal:

“I have Tomb Raider shipping next holiday exclusively on Xbox. It is Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I’m not trying to fake anybody out in terms of where this thing is. What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don’t control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don’t know where else Tomb Raider goes.”

When asked about if this meant the exclusivity period had a time limit, Spencer apparently replied “Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn’t buy it. I don’t own the franchise.”

So the key thing here appears to be the words “Holiday 2015” (“Holiday” is what Americans call Christmas), so we could conceivably see Tomb Raider hit the PS4 early next year if we’re lucky – though Spencer didn’t reveal the length of the deal.

It’s almost certain that we won’t get any more details on when we can expect a PS4 Tomb Raider release this side of Christmas, as Crystal Dynamics won’t want to jeopardise Xbox sales. But we can expect light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s just hope it isn’t a deal lasting a number of years…

  • Dude I think he was meaning he doesn’t own the franchise but this game is an Xbox exclusive. So it’s better to assume that PlayStation gamers may get tomb raider 3 at some point. Hope at getting this game right now is hopeless.
