The Sunday Telegraph reports that a special unit, called Project Ethan, has been set up to develop a new system to make it easier for customers to access programmes on any device.

Project Ethan is believed to include plans for TV recorded using the Sky+ service to be stored in a data centre rather than on set-top box hard disks, it says. The recordings in the cloud would be accessible via smartphones and tablets, or on internet-connected televisions outside the living room.

According to the report, Sky would be ready to roll out the new technology within the next two years.

Sky said: “Innovation is at the heart of our business. We are always looking at ways to enhance our service to customers, as with the launch of our new EPG home page this month.”

The report also says Sky is moving quickly with its 4K plans, with a new set-top box supporting 4K output said to be in the works.
