ps4-with-camera.jpegSony have just added another arrow to the PlayStation 4’s quiver in its battle against Microsoft’s Xbox One console, revealing that their new machine will offer Kinect-like voice commands through its camera accessory.

Sony says that the camera accessory “allows for voice recognition”, with an integrated microphone in the camera able to pick up on selected phrases. At present, Sony have not yet revealed just how deep these voice controls will go, nor what they will do, only teasing that more will be revealed in the run up to the console’s launch on 15 November in North America and 29 November in Europe.

With the two new next-gen consoles fairly evenly matched when it comes to specifications, the Xbox One’s trump card looked set to be its Kinect motion and voice sensor. However, this latest announcement could steal some of the Kinect’s thunder.

Whereas the Xbox One ships with the Kinect sensor however, the PlayStation 4 does not come packaged with its camera. Interestingly, rumour has it that the Sony had originally intended to include the camera with all consoles, though decided against it in order to undercut the Xbox One’s pricing.
