Wii U takes an arrow to the knee as Bethesda lose interest in console

skyrim-wii-u.jpgWii U owners have been dealt another blow, as Bethesda, publishers of the Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Dishonored games, have announced that the latest Nintendo console doesn’t figure into their current development plans.

“None of the game’s we’ve announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it’s guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U,” Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines told Joystiq at QuakeCon, when quizzed in regards to The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Evil Within.

“Will any future ones come out? I can’t say for sure, in our near-term focus it’s not on our radar.”

“It’s largely a hardware thing,” Hines said, once again suggestive of the lack of power of the Wii U console and the difficulties adequately developing for its quirky touchscreen controller.

Bethesda are just the latest company to give the Wii U the cold shoulder. EA have all-but abandoned Wii U development, Ubisoft have given up on offering exclusives to the Nintendo console, and increasingly features for games that do make it to the Wii U (including the multiplayer mode for Batman: Arkham Origins) are being culled from version headed to the Nintendo machine.

Is Bethesda’s involvement with the Wii U done and dusted? “It remains to be seen what the future holds,” teased Hines, but in the short term, it’s yet another blow to Nintendo’s struggling console.

  • Wii U owners have not “been dealt another blow”. Bethesda has not developed a game for a Nintendo home consoles system in 22 years. In the 27 years since their founding only 4 games they’ve published ended up on Nintendo’s home consoles, two of them were on the NES.

Bethesda leaving Nintendo out of the picture is old news. Very old.

Additionally, it would be good for Wii U to take an arrow to the knee from Bethesda because it’s old slang for getting married. Which would result in games going to Wii U as opposed to skipping it.

    • Not only is it not a surprise but Bethesda already said this once before this year, how it’s made news again is beyond me? Fortunately for me the Only Bethesda game I’d have any interest in would be Dishonored 2; which I haven’t heard an announcement for so am assuming if it does exist its miles away. Other than that I don’t like many of the games they produce including the Oblivion games. I have played all of the Oblivion and Fallout games (finished a couple), and gotten bored of every single one due to dull go here (then come back) quests made more dull by the fact you can just warp to these places.
