htc-one-x+-official.jpgA recently signed licensing deal with Apple will lead to better HTC smartphones in 2013, the company has revealed.

The Taiwanese firm came to an agreement with Cupertino’s finest back in November 2012, which sees HTC pay a lump sum as well as monthly installments in order to use certain Apple patented technologies, and end the ongoing legal battles between the two companies.

Such technologies will in many cases will be exclusively available to HTC as an Android developer, potentially giving their phones the edge over other Google-backing smartphone manufacturers.

“The settlement with Apple will start to pay off next year (2013), and the fourth quarter of this year is still going at a set pace,” HTC China president Ray Yam told the Economic Observer of China.

“The biggest benefit to us is that we can put more energy into innovation, which is more important than anything else for a technology company.”

Despite a positive response to the launch of HTC’s One series, 2012 was a financially difficult year for the company, seeing their sales slide ever further behind Samsung and Apple.

CES 2013 is expected to see the launch of the HTC M7, which while probably falling outside of the window within which to implement the newly acquired Apple technologies, is expected to be their 2013 flagship, with a 4.7-inch screen and 1.7GHz quad-core processor.
