LOVEFiLM-logo.jpgIt’s landing in the twilight years of the console’s life-span, but LoveFilm movie streaming is finally available on Nintendo’s Wii console, a year since the service’s launch on the Xbox 360 and two years since hitting the PS3.

And yes, that’s the original Wii getting LoveFilm – owners of the new Nintendo Wii U console will have to wait a little longer, with the app for the next-gen HD Nintendo console “coming soon”.

The LoveFilm Instant service for Wii brings unlimited streaming of LoveFilm’s movie and TV catalogue to the Wii, with subscriptions priced at £4.99 a month.

Recent decents to hit the service include Inception, Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and critically acclaimed TV period drama Downton Abbey.

Shelly Pearce, Marketing & PR Director for Nintendo UK said:

“We are thrilled to be partnering with LOVEFiLM to offer Wii owners and soon Wii U owners on-demand film and TV content to enjoy. LOVEFiLM has a proven track record of success and innovation in film distribution and is a very welcome addition.”

Jim Buckle, Managing Director at LOVEFiLM, added:

“Launching on the Wii, combined with our impending arrival on the Wii U, is great news for our members. The Wii is a console for the whole family and with our vast catalogue of kid’s and family-friendly films and TV shows there’s more for everyone to enjoy at LOVEFiLM compared to any other subscription service. We offer our customers a great selection at exceptional value and the huge array of platforms we’re now available on means it’s never been easier or more convenient for our customers to access what they want to watch, however and wherever they choose.”

As well as being avaialble on the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, LoveFilm Instant is available for PC and Mac through web browsers, as well as being available as iOS and Android apps.

  • confusing. The reporter should have asked Jim Buckle why the Lovefilm app, apparently bundled with the Wii U at launch didn’t work for users. Most of us spent frustrating minutes trying to get the Lovefilm app on the Wiiu to open but couldn’t get past an error message. An explanation/apology from them would have helped.
