Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Smart Dock turns your big phone into a desktop PC

smartdock-samsung-note-2.jpegIt’s barely able to fit in a pocket, so why confine the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to a denim dungeon in your jeans? That’s partly the thinking behind Samsung’s latest accessory, the Galaxy Note 2 Smart Dock, which turns the smartphone behemoth into a desktop PC.

Docking the Note 2 lets you hook up the powerful quad-core, 2GB RAM packing phone up to an external display, offering an all-in-one computing set up.

The white dock has a decent selection of ports, including two USB, a speaker line-out and a full size HDMI port, but with no other cables or accessories included you’ll have to grab your own keyboard, mouse and video leads. Also, the lack of a VGA port may limit the number of displays it can be used with.

However, as an option next to a bigscreen TV, you can bring Android gaming, browsing and video playback to your living room with the Smart Dock, perhaps a more sensible application than using it as a laptop replacement.

Only available in the US at present, it’ll set you back $99 (around £60).

  • Will this work with the Samsung S3?

Anybody know of cheap adapter/converter that will let me use this with my VGA monitors?

  • If you register this awesome phone on Samsung’s site, they’ll give you 50 percent off of up to 10 accessories for the next month or so.

It’s too bad this docking station doesn’t include 3 usb ports instead of just 2 so you could hook up a keyboard, mouse, & external hard drive.

      • Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it.

This was the first review I had read of the smart dock, but fortunately others show a third USB on the other side, so l’m good.

      • On Samsung’s site, scroll down & you’ll see two chat looking windows showing members point scores from the “game” on their site. Choose “my rewards” on top of the left box. That’s how I found it. There’s a code given for it.
