shazam_logo2.jpgShazam have expanded their US app offering by adding TV show tagging to their usual music recognition remit.

The content of 160 US channels can now be scanned by Shazam, which will throw up relevant cast and crew details relating to the show in question, making it now a viable second-screen auxiliary app as well as a music discovery service.

“With more than a quarter of a billion people who have used Shazam worldwide, no other app has our scale when it comes to offering the opportunity to engage with the media that interests them the most, whether it’s music or television,” said Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher.

“And now, that experience is even better than before, enabling people in the US to engage with any show at any time.”

So far, Shazam has only dabbled with advertisement tagging in the UK, but will expand “in the coming” months to include features similar to those currently being rolled out in the US. Other European territories, including Spain, Italy, Germany and France are also being lined up to get the update.

Shazam now has 250 million users, with that figure growing by two million every week.
