Pinterest app for iPad and Android lands
After a long old wait, Pinterest have finally unveiled their Android and iPad apps.
Announced at a “Pinner” party hosted by co-founders Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp at their San Francisco headquarters, the apps “allow you to pin, discover, and access your account from wherever you choose,”
“It may sound funny, but our goal has never been to keep you online,” the company stated through a press release.
“Instead, we want to inspire you to go offline and do things that you love.”
While promising that the Android version will be compatible with practically every Google-powered handset on the market, Pinterest tease that the new iPad version may now be the definitive way to use their digital pinboard service.
“Our new iPad app is perfect for sitting on the couch, on a train, or in bed where users can effortlessly discover, save and organizer the things that interest them. The app offers users new ways to engage with pins.”
These “new ways” include the use of an embedded browser, swipe gestures to resume browsing after pining an item, and a pop-up button that displays all the pins from a particular website.
iPhone users, who’ve had access to a bespoke app for over a year, will also see updates and changes hit their version of the application. A dual-column layout allows for easier browsing, while the whole app should now feel more responsive and faster.
