Nikon Coolpix S800c compact camera has Android smarts and Wi-Fi connectivity

Nikon have just revealed their long-rumoured Android-powered compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S800c.

Also housing Wi-Fi connectivity, the camera can be used in conjunction with all the usual Android photography apps, including Instagram, and can also be used to upload photos directly to social networks like Twitter and Facebook, as well as photo hosting sites like Flickr. Even games and productivity apps can be used on the camera, as well as a full-blown web browsers. There’s no phone call option though, and no 3G.

“Designed for the always connected individual, the S800c delivers the high picture quality and superior performance expected from a Nikon camera coupled with communication functions and app-based versatility of a smartphone or tablet,” says Nikon.

Looking more closely at the photo-snapping abilities of the Coolpix S800c, it features a 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor, and a 10x Nikkor zoom lens (25-250mm).

A three-shot burst mode is paired with 1080p video recording (and direct YouTube upload abilities) while 18 scene and filter modes mean you might not even have to grab Instagram anyway.

There’s also built-in GPS for geotagging photos, a 3.5-inch OLED preview screen, and WPS for for a fast secure push button connectivity.

Available from 27 September and available in black or white shades, it’ll cost £379.99.
