LG Optimus Vu hits UK with new quad-core processor
LG’s large, squarish Optimus Vu handset is finally getting a global roll-out after being available in Korea since March. And, as a thank you for the wider world being so patient, LG have made some significant upgrades to the device in time for the handset’s journey into wider territories.
The LG Optimus Vu now comes complete with a quad-core 1.5GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 chip, making use of the impressive 4-Plus-1 quad core CPU that sets aside a fifth battery saving core for power hungry activities like gaming and video streaming. The Optimus Vu had until now been powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU.
Elsewhere you’ll find a 5-inch display on the smartphone, an 8MP camera, as well as a generous 32GB of storage and Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich Android operating system.
However, the Optimus Vu will be dropping its LTE connectivity when it lands in the UK, as we’re still lagging behind when it comes to superfast mobile broadband infrastructure.
Despite its unusual squat shape, the Optimus Vu has sold well in Korea, totting up over half a million sales.
No word on pricing or availability yet, but it’ll be interesting to see how it shapes up against the similarly sized Galaxy Note from Samsung, or indeed its successor which is expected to launch at the end of the month.
