Square Enix have employed UFC fighter, current welterweight champ and all-round professional ass-kicker Georges St-Pierre to showcase the fighting system for their latest open-world crime sim, Sleeping Dogs. Check him out in action alongside footage from the game in the trailer above.

Developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios, Sleeping Dogs has had a difficult development cycle so far. Originally planned as a True Crime sequel, it got cancelled by Activision. Now with a fresh lick of paint and Square Enix onboard as publishers, it’s on course for a 17th August 2012 release date for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PCs.

According to the developers, Sleeping Dogs is a “gritty and visceral open world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong”. You will take the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, tasked with taking down one of the world’s most fearsome criminal organisations from the inside.

It’s looking a bit like a Grand Theft Auto game merged with all the best bits of Jackie Chan’s back catalogue, which can’t be a bad thing.

We’re looking to go hands-on with the game next week, so be sure to check back with Tech Digest then for our full impressions.
