snapdragon-top-red.jpgQualcomm look set to extend their partnership with Microsoft today, with their Snapdragon S4 Plus processors said to be the guts of next-gen Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Following the launch of tiers for the Snapdragon platform, the S4 Plus has been picked for its dual-core abilities, up to 1.7GHz processing speeds and Adreno 305 graphics. It’s also both 3G and 4G enabled, with USB 2.0 and Bluetooth supported, making it a well rounded bit of kit.

Though only the Plus chips have been announced at this point, remember that Microsoft has stated that Windows 8 will support up to 64 cores. With Qualcomm’s S4 Pro supporting up to four cores and an Adreno 320 GPU, we wouldn’t be surprised if more advanced Windows 8 handsets opt for that processor a little further into the product cycle.
