Google’s Dropbox rival, often nicknamed the G-Drive in lieu of an official name, will have its covers lifted off next week, offering all users 5GB of free cloud storage, over double the 2GB that Dropbox offers for free to its users.

It’s likely that Google will also offer integration with their web services (Google Docs, Gmail etc) as well as price plans for extra storage space, which have yet to be revealed. A desktop folder client will work with PCs and Macs, with iOS and Android apps to follow some time after launch.

The leaked press release makes no mention of which territories the service will launch in first, though the US will almost certainly be among the first ports of call for the G-Drive.

We’ll bring any official word to you as soon as we hear it. It seems the end of years of waiting for Google to show their cloud-storage hand are nearly over.

  • Now I understand why dropbox doubled its referral rewards to 500MB per referee.

BTW for those who still don’t know the Ref’Around project (I’ve referred already 16 times for dropbox in less than 2 weeks) check this link:

It looks quite recent (still in beta) but I’m already lovin’ it!!
