Projector phones, despite having genuine application, have never really taken off. Perhaps their fortunes can be turned around within Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone range, as the company have taken MWC 2012 to reveal the Samsung Galaxy Beam projector phone.

At 12.5mm thick it’s billed as the world’s thinnest projector phone, with a 15 lumens bulb capable of projecting 50 inch images with strong results.

More of a novelty than a flagship phone, the rest of its specs are sturdy if uninspiring; you get a 4 inch WVGA with Android Gingerbread, a 5MP camera and a 1GHz dual core processor. 8GB of internal memory is onboard, which can be expanded by microSD cards, useful if you begin using the phone to carry your library of flicks or large presentations on.

A 2000mAh battery life sounds wondrous, but that’ll drain faster than a pint in a pub in the middle of a desert once that 15 lumens bulb heats up.

Expect to see it in stores before the summer.
