Mass Effect 3, arguably the biggest gaming release of 2012, will not be available through high-street retailer GAME when it is released on March 9th.

An internal document has revealed that the struggling shop will offer those who had pre-ordered the title through GAME £5 worth of Reward Card/Elite points, as well as a full refund on their pre-order purchase.

Published by EA, Mass Effect 3 will be joined by other March Electronic Arts releases absent on GAME stores shelves after the release of SSX.

It’s been a tough year for GAME, who’ve struggled with credit problems, leading to other high-profile titles like The Last Story on the Wii, Tekken 3DS and Ubisoft’s entire Vita launch line up failing to hit their stores.

GAME, who are notoriously one of the more expensive retailers, seem to be losing out to cheaper online stores and pre-owned-only chains like CEX. With the future of GAME now uncertain, so too is the fate of their sister-store GameStation, meaning the high-street’s only dedicated videogame retailers are both now in danger.

Customers who pre-ordered the N7 Collector’s Edition of Mass Effect 3 are now being advised to place new pre-orders with Amazon, Play, ShopTo or Zavvi, who will now also be stocking the limited edition versions.
