Apple boss makes veiled swipe at Amazon Kindle Fire tablet

kindle-fire-vs-ipad-2.jpgWhat’s more important when buying a gadget for you? Quality or price? In our “buy cheap, buy twice” culture, you may choose the latter, but Apple CEO Tim Cook has defended the premium pricing of his company’s products, stating that buying budget-friendly gadgets can cause frustration in the long run.

“Price is rarely the most important thing. A cheap product might sell some units. Somebody gets it home and they feel great when they pay the money, but then they get it home and use it, and the joy is gone,” said Cook

“The joy is gone every day that they use it until they aren’t using it anymore. You don’t keep remembering ‘I got a good deal’ because you hate it.”

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, Cook didn’t single out any indivdual products, but it’s easy to guess that his ire is directed at Amazon and their budget friendly Kindle Fire tablet.

The statement also seem to show Cook revelling in the iPad’s apparently-invincible status at the top of the tablet pile, but with Apple’s continued court efforts against Samsung, perhaps the Cupertino giants feel their grip on the market beginning to be threatened.

With the iPad 3 almost certainly now waiting in the wings, it’ll be interesting to see whether the innovative company can keep wowing the masses, and whether or not cut-price products can keep the pace.

  • You may have a teen on your list to buy for. They would love the chance to have their favorite music to listen to while playing one of the many games that are out there. With plenty of apps available, including some of the hottest titles, they won’t have to search hard to find what they are looking for.
