Samsung are entering the ultrabook fray at CES 2012 with the Series 5 range. The portable/powerful machines will come in 13 and 14 inch sizes, yet pack a powerful processing punch.

Looking first at the smaller 13 inch model, it weighs just 1.38kg in its SSD configuration, with an anti-reflective running at a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and a brightness of 300nit.

An Intel Core i5 sits under the 14.9mm (at its thinnest point) brushed metal chassis, with 8GB of RAM and an internal Intel HD Graphic 3000 chip.

Moving onto the 14 incher, and it weighs a tad more at 1.84kg. That extra weight is in part thanks to an AMD Radeon HD7550M 1GB GPU on graphics processing duties, and space for an optional optical drive.

Both models pack in a 16GB iSSD with Express Cache, meaning both your applications and the machine itself will fire up near-instantly.

Though already available in Korea, the laptops should be hitting the UK very soon. We’ll pass on pricing details as we get them.
