Apple’s Mac App Store has hit the 100 million app-downloads mark, less than a year after the store’s launch.

“In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of marketing.

“With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world.”

It’s a strong start for the store which, while not quite mimicking the number of apps being shifted on mobile devices, must be a real money-spinner for Apple, considering the generally higher price that the software sells at.

Apple also revealed the continued strong sales figures being seen in their mobile App Store. Over 18 billion apps have now been downloaded onto iPads, iPhones and iPods, now selling at a rate of close to 1 billion downloads a month.
