ViewSonic are preparing to release a brand new tablet called the ViewPad 10e. The 10 inch tablet will be just 9.1mm thick, and while that’s not enough to top beat the record-breaking waistline of the Samsung Galaxy 10.1, it’s enough for the ViewSonic team to brand it “hyper-slim”.

Still, it manages to cram in a decent set of specs in that svelte frame, with the tablet offering 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU for an overall weight of 620g.

However, ViewSonic have opted for the aging Gingerbread build (Android 2.3) of Google’s mobile OS, rather than the tablet-orientated Android 3.0 Honeycomb version.

ViewSonic have made a few tweaks to the UI though so as to offset the effects of employing the older OS. The ViewScene 3D feature provides a “customisable 3D style user interface” , bringing what appears to be a carousel-style set of 16 homepages, along with widgets. Note that this isn’t a 3D tablet, however. Just 3D style.

In terms of connectivity, the ViewPad 10e offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, mini USB and a mini HDMI connector for 720p big-screen playback.

No word on pricing yet, but hopefully it’ll be on the penny-pinching side of affordable come its release this November in the UK.

  • How is this any different to the gTablet? Better screen but worse spec. Buy this and you can expect no support or update, just like the way Viewsonic treated its predecessors the gTablet.
