motorola-xoom-2-media-edition-0.jpgSecond time lucky for Motorola’s Xoom tablet? While the original Xoom slate (the first to feature Android Honeycomb) was met with a positive critical response, it never flew off the shelves in the way that Motorola had hoped. Two next gen-Xooms however have been spotted out in the wild in development stages over the weekend. Can the recent Google tie-in increase the tablet’s fortunes this time around?

Starting with what appears to be the direct successor, the Xoom 2 will again have a 10.1 inch form, running Android 3.2 and Flash 11. 1GB of RAM is on a par with the original Xoom slate, but a dual-core 1.2GHz chip, reportedly a Texas Instruments OMAP 4, is a worthy power boost.

1080p video recording and a 5MP camera are also set to feature (highlighted by the HD logo on the leaked tablet’s rear). The tablet’s hardware buttons will also be rear-mounted.

A slightly smaller “Media Edition” of the Xoom also looks set to launch. With an 8.9 inch Gorilla glass HD IPS display, the tablet codenamed “Fleming” will also sport Android 2.3, measuring just 9.3mm in thickness and weighing only 430g.

LTE superfast mobile broadband will be onboard, with the same 5MP camera and rear set of buttons.

We’ll keep you posted on any official Xoom 2 news as we get it.
