HTC Explorer: Entry-level smartphone, hopefully with intrepidly cheap price tag

htc-explorer.jpgWhile much of the focus of HTC’s autumnal range will be focussed on the “asexual” HTC Rhyme, those with less cash in the coffers should take a gander at the newly-leaked HTC Explorer.

Very much an entry level handset, the smartphone formerly known as the HTC Pico has now been outed by PocketNow and retailer Clove, popping up on the latter’s web page before abruptly being removed.

Before that listing dissapeared however, a few specs were revealed.

The Explorer Android mobile sports HTC’s Sense UI with a re-designed homescreen that features the same left-hand app widget seen in the Rhyme.

Under the hood you’ll find an 1230mAh battery and a 600MHz processor powering the 3.2inch HVGA touchscreen. 512MB of storage comes as standard, presumably expandable by microSD, with a 5MP snapper on the rear.

An October 6th HTC media and press event will likely be the official reveal date for the handset. If HTC can manage to keep it around the Ł100 mark, SIM-free, you’d have an absolute bargain handset here.

  • One is always on a strange road, watching strange scenery and listening to strange music. Then one day, you will find that the things you try hard to forget are already gone.

  • Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  • This design is wicked! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog
