Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is shaping up to be one of the year’s finest games, impressing at E3 and building on the stellar work seen in stablemates Oblivion and Fallout 3.

But you’ve got a fair old wait ahead of you before Skyrim’s 11/11/11 release date.

Those looking to get their fantasy fix by heading back to Oblivion should check out this awesome, beautiful mod, Andoran, which brings the game visually bang up to date and introduces a whole new map and storyline to explore.

The fan-built add-on acts as a prologue to the series’ core events and pretty much qualifies as a whole new game, with new characters, textures, effects and abilities, like the “hog tying” skill.

Due for release at the end of the year, it’s totally free and only requires that you have a licensed copy of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to apply the mod to.
