Samsung may have been first on the scene with a free 3D VOD TV app (Explore 3D), but Sony are hot on their heels with their own 3D Experience app for Bravia 3D TVs.

Owners of Sony’s connected 3D TVs will be able to access the free VOD service from today, offering roughly 30 3D videos. In a variety of genres, content includes 3D music videos and documentaries and movie trailers, as well as highlights from the recent Wimbledon tennis tournament.

“Sony is committed to creating great 3D experiences by combining the best content with a full HD 3D,” said Edd Uzzell, proposition development manager at Sony UK.

“This free service delivers exclusive content directly to your home via any Bravia 3D TV and straight out of the box. We will continue to work with partners to give our customers access to more great 3D entertainment.”

Sony are also hoping to roll the 3D Experience app out to their Blu-ray players and home cinema systems too for those who may have them paired with a rival brand’s 3D sets.
