Nokia WP7 to launch on 26th October?

Nokia has announced the date of its annual Nokia World conference for 2011, and with it comes a very believable date for the launch of their Windows Phone 7 handset range.

Scheduled to take place in London on the 26th and 27th of October, the 9am keynote on the opening day is expected to see Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 devices take centre stage.

Nokia have a tendency to launch their major handsets at the event; last year saw the N8, E7, C7 and C6 devices officially revealed at the show for instance. It also coincides nicely with Microsoft’s planned release of the Mango update (Windows Phone 7.5) of their OS, which would be an extra boost for the mobiles’ launch.

CEO Stephen Elop has already said this week that his company’s “primary smartphone strategy is to focus on the Windows phone” and that “we will launch our first device based on the Windows platform later this year and we will ship our product in volume in 2012.”

Time to get down the bookies for those Nokia/WP7 launch bets we’d say.
