sidekick-4g.jpgThe T-Mobile Sidekick is back with added 4G smarts, nine years after the original handset stole the hearts of mobile fans around the world.

Fitting for a phone whose original producers Danger list Google’s Andy Rubin among their founders, the Sidekick 4G will run the Android 2.2 operating system, and will have the same emphasis on social media as its forerunner.

Built this time around by Samsung and aimed more now at teens than “prosumers”, the phone has a five-row QWERTY slider, 3.5 inch display, 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, 3MP rear camera and front one for video calling, as well as a dedicated “Smiley” button for messaging.

Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile, said, “We are proud that T-Mobile selected Samsung to help create the next-generation Sidekick and carry the iconic Sidekick brand and device to the next level. Samsung redesigned the new Sidekick 4G with our best-in-class hardware, combined with T-Mobile’s 4G network speeds, the Android operating system, and unique messaging and entertainment features, to make this a perfect match for both loyal Sidekick fans and new Sidekick owners.”
