Play.com have become the first retailer to announce a price and release date for the forthcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Play handset, officially unveiled last week at MWC in Barcelona.

£519.99 will bag you the PlayStation-certified Xperia Play SIM-free, which will ship to your home on the 28th of March.

Though T-Mobile, O2, Orange and Three have all announced that they will be carrying the handset, all have yet to show their hands when it comes to pricing. Expect a decent amount of subsidisation though when paired with a tariff deal around the £30 per-month mark.

Packing in a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the Gingerbread version of Android and a 4-inch touchscreen, the Xperia Play looks set to delight gamers thanks to its slide-out hardware gamepad. PlayStation One titles will be available to download for the handset, while PlayStation Suite functionality, the same as is headed to the Sony NGP handheld console, will follow soon after launch.
