There are many Bluetooth watches out there which hook up to your phone in a variety of ways, but none look quite as promising as this prototype unveiled at CES yesterday by Casio.

It has several big advantages over its rivals. One, it is from an established watch maker who knows a thing or two about creating attractive but highly functional timepieces. Secondly it uses Low Energy Bluetooth, so in theory its battery should last for a whopping two years.

So what does it do? It syncs up with your mobile to tell you when you have a new message or email. It’ll also let you control your phone too, so if it rings at an inappropriate time you simply switch the ringer off on the watch. And that’s about it for now.

The only downside is that there are currently zero phones that are compatible with Low Energy Bluetooth so you’ll have to wait for the phone makers to catch up before this hits the stores.

Nice idea though, and with a bit of luck it’ll be rather cheap too.
