LG’s dual-core superphone, previously known as the LG Star has now gone official, and has been re-named the Optimus 2X.

The powerful 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 chip runs the show here, with a 4-inch WVGA display, 8GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel main camera with Full HD recording smarts, a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera and a 1,500mAh battery.

However, in what will comes as somewhat of a disapointment to those who have followed the Android smartphone in it’s many leaks over the last few months, the phone will (initially at least) be shipping with the Froyo rather than Gingerbread version of Google’s OS.

“Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

“With unique features such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) mirroring and exceptional graphics performance, the LG Optimus 2X is proof of LG’s commitment to high-end smartphones in 2011.”

The phone launches in Korea this month with a European release to follow shortly. No word yet on pricing or networks.
