Latitude

Google Latitude is finally available for iPhone users.
Latitude is a friend location-tracking feature that works as a part of Google Maps. It has been available to users running alternative OSes such as Android or Symbian for a number of years now. Apple, however, had previously rejected the iPhone version, up until now. The newest version of the Latitude app is available for download on all iOS devices with the exception of the iPhone 3G.

Latitude allows your friends to see your location on a Google map. It even lets you share your location in the background, even when the app is closed or your device screen is locked. Although this may seem a little creepy, it does have benefits. Imagine you are meeting a friend at a party and have never been there before. You can simply turn on Latitude and navigate to them. Of course there are a number of privacy settings. For example you can share only your city-level location, hide your location or turn off background updating at any time.
