Waiting to see the Master Chief take the fight to the big screen in a Halo movie? You’d be forgiven for thinking that all hope for such a project would be lost, but Microsoft’s Frank O’Connor has fanned the flames of rumour once again by bluntly stating that “There will be a Halo Movie”.

Stuck in development Hell due to legal wranglings and debates over directors, the Microsoft man added; “Everyone wanted to do a Halo movie, the director, Microsoft, the highest placed people at movie companies.”

“It was the lawyers. When they went behind closed doors with the contracts, things fell apart. The problem was that the movie company couldn’t make any money beyond the movie,” said O’Connor.

It’s now got to the point where Microsoft may cough up the cash to make the movie a reality themselves.

“There will be a Halo movie. We don’t need a movie. But we’d like a movie. We’d like the moms of gamers to see the movies because they would love our characters,” joked O’Conner. “Maybe we’ll even fund it ourselves.”

Previous directors linked to the project have included Lord of the Rings’ Peter Jackson and District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp, who had even made the awesome shorts above to promote Halo 3.
