Panasonic have announced that they are once again about to enter into the mobile phone market. Android smartphones will be the flavour of choice, with devices hitting Japan next year and other territories worldwide in 2012.

“We misjudged the speed at which smartphones would be taken up in the Japanese market,” said Osamu Waki, head of the company’s mobile communications unit “With the rapid shift to Android, we want to catch up quickly.”

While Panasonic once had a hand in making some pretty decent feature phones, have they left it too late to make an impact on the crowded smartphone market? Samsung, LG and HTC are already churning out quality handsets at a startling rate. Is there room for another player at the table?

Perhaps, but what can Panasonic do to lure Android fans to thier handsets?

Well for starters, unless they are going to do as good a job as HTC did with their Sense UI, leave the Android interface well alone. It’s fine as it is and doesn’t need too much tinkering to work nicely with most handsets.

Also, with the whole raft of Panasonic gadgets out there, how about some inter-connectivity between their devices? Is video streaming to Panasonic TVs too much of a long-shot?
