Angry Birds, the app-gaming sensation that pits bombardments of winged warriors against egg-stealing pigs, has reached 2 million downloads on Android handsets, despite only being available for a few short days.

Developed by the Finnish Rovio Mobile, their decision to hit Android phones with a free-to-play model through the GetJar platform has proved wildly successful, with the app hitting the 1 million mark on it’s first day alone, with downloads doubling within just a matter of days.

“1M+ downloads first day,” tweeted Rovio Mobile. “Been a great day for us,” the app developers announced, following it up today with “Another day, another million. Passed 2 million downloads on Android.”

Already a major success on the iPhone, Angry Bird’s continued success lies closely with Rovio’s continued support for the game, regularly providing gamers with free updates and extra levels to keep them hooked.
